New appointments this week in UK politics, the civil service and public affairs

Houses of Parliament:
House of Lords
Lord Freeman (Conservative, life peer) went on Leave of Absence on 16th July.
Lord Bethell elected as the new Conservative hereditary peer on 18th July.
Government Departments:
Scott Mann resigned as Parliamentary Private Secretary in HM Treasury.
Andrew Griffiths resigned as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Corporate Responsibility) at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Guto Bebb resigned as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Defence Procurement), at the Ministry of Defence.
Stuart Andrew appointed as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Defence Procurement), at the Ministry of Defence.
Kelly Tolhurst appointed as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Corporate Responsibility) at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

UK Atomic Energy Authority – David Gann appointed as Chair from 1st August, replacing Roger Cashmore.
Ministry of Justice
Law Commission – Nicholas Paines reappointed as a Commissioner.
Department for Work and Pensions
Health and Safety Executive – Paul Kenny appointed as a member of the board.
Single Financial Guidance Body – John Govett named at the first Chief Executive of the new body.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Chris Rampling has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to Lebanon from September.
Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport
S4C - Owen Derbyshire, Anita George and Rhodri Williams named as members.

Scottish Government
Creative Scotland – Janet Archer to stand down as Chief Executive.
Local Authorities:

Bury Council – Lucy Smith elected for Besses – Labour hold. (Elizabeth Fitzgerald resigned).
West Lancashire Council – Joan Witter elected for Hesketh with Becconsall – Conservative hold. (Paul Moon resigned).
Oxford Council – Stef Garden elected for Headington – Liberal Democrat hold. (Ruth Wilkinson resigned).
Carmarthenshire Council – Karen Davies elected for Saron – Plaid Cymru hold. (Alun Davies died).
Milton Keynes Council – Emily Darlington elected for Bletchley East – Labour hold. (Alan Webb resigned).
Northamptonshire Council – Anjona Roy elected for St George – Labour hold. (Rachel Cooley resigned).

Interest Groups
Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce – Tim Eyles appointed as Chair from October.
Creative Industries Federation – Alan Bishop replaced John Kampfner as Chief Executive.
Children with Cancer UK - Dhivya O’Connor to replace Cliff O'Gorman as Chief Executive.
Oxfam GB – Steve Kingstone to become Communications Director, replacing Matthew Sherrington who was in the role on an interim basis.

Association of Police and Crime Commissioners – Mark Burns-Williamson appointed as Chair.

Hanover Communications – Nick King joins as a Senior Adviser.
Newgate Communications – Dafydd Rees joined as a Partner.
