Officers recognised in 2019 Queen's New Year’s Honours List

30 rank and file officers from across England and Wales have been recognised in the 2019 Queen’s New Year’s Honours announced today.
A Federation Representative from Avon and Somerset Police is amongst those recognised. Response officer, PC Adrian (Adge) Secker, has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his outstanding services to policing and the community.
PC Secker, has been a police officer for 29 years, joining in 1992 as a response officer in South Bristol.
He now works in response in Bath and is a well-known and respected figure in the community. Bath has a large deaf community and PC Secker took it upon himself to learn British sign language so that he could communicate with everybody in the community in which he served. He is also the force liaison officer for the deaf community and provides support to the charity Action on Hearing Loss.
Alongside his ‘day job’ and his work as a Federation Rep, PC Secker is also a governor for a local school for children with behaviour issues where he is a positive role model for many children. He also leads the Bath Police Cadets.
In response to the news PC Secker, who is due to retire from the force in February 2019, said: “I am absolutely staggered and extremely humbled and proud to receive this honour. My late dad would have been beaming with pride.
“I always say I was born in High Wycombe but made in Avon and Somerset Police, and to be awarded such an Honour from Her Majesty is a wonderful and humbling end to my incredible career.”
Also amongst those honoured are two rank and file officers from Greater Manchester Police who have received a British Empire Medal (BEM) for their commitment and dedication following the attacks in Manchester in May 2017.
In response one of those honoured, Detective Chief Inspector Theresa Lam, said: “Receiving this recognition is a significant moment in my personal and professional life. It’s a huge privilege, and one for which I am truly honoured.
“However, I will never forget those who have suffered and to whom I remain dedicated to continue to support. I am immensely proud of my family liaison team who also worked tirelessly to provide support to those affected.”
Significantly more rank and file officers have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List – PFEW would like to continue to see more officers across England and Wales being recognised for their dedication and commitment to keeping the public safe, especially in these times of austerity.
PFEW National Chair John Apter said: “I would like to extend a big congratulations to all those officers recognised in the 2019 Queen’s New Year’s Honours.
“It makes me incredibly proud to see so many of my colleagues from across England and Wales being recognised so highly for the outstanding contributions they have made to policing and in the communities in which they serve.
“To receive such recognition from Her Majesty the Queen is something each and every officer receiving an honour should be immensely proud of. Police officers are unsung heroes, it’s great to see them being celebrated in this way.”
