The Minister of State for Policing and the Fire Service, Nick Hurd today celebrated the bravery of 80 police officers at a special reception hosted at 10 Downing Street.

Officers from 40 forces in England and Wales attended the reception (pictured) as a mark of recognition for their heroic acts.

Nick Hurd, Minister for Policing and the Fire Service said:  “Our policemen and women are everyday heroes. They show bravery and determination every time they pull on their uniform to protect the public.

“So it is right that we honour the commitment and dedication of all the officers nominated for the national Police Bravery Awards. We remember especially this year PC Keith Palmer, who gave his life defending our Parliament. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

“My personal congratulations to all the nominees. We are grateful for your service and your courage is an inspiration to us all.”

Calum Macleod, Chair, Police Federation of England and Wales said:  “Today, we recognise some of the bravest officers in England and Wales. Those who have put the safety of the public before their own, running towards what most people would run away from.

“Every day, officers up and down the country find themselves in dangerous, distressing and down-right extraordinary situations, and every day they face these challenges head on.

“I have been humbled talking with the nominees at today’s reception and I extend my congratulations to them all.  For their heroism we are sincerely indebted.”

Stephen Mann, Chief Executive of Police Mutual who sponsor the awards, said: “Police Mutual is very proud to be supporting the Police Bravery Awards for the 10th consecutive year.

“All those who have been nominated should be proud of themselves and their achievements. When it mattered most, they stepped up. They proved that their commitment to keeping the public safe did not waver, even when tested in the most trying of circumstances.

“At Police Mutual, my colleagues and I are deeply honoured to be able to show our appreciation for their bravery in keeping us safe.”
