Tory chairman's attempt to undermine 'long held liberties', warns Unite
Tory chairman Grant Shapps has been accused of undermining the long held liberties of the British people in attacking Unite, the country's largest union, over its strategy to protect working people.
Unite was responding to Grant Shapps' letter to Labour leader Ed Miliband complaining about the union's 'leverage' strategy.
A Unite spokesperson said:
“Mr Shapps' remarks show how our basic liberties – including the right to protest – are not safe with the Tories. Now they want to clamp down on free speech and the right of peaceful assembly.
“What is really indecent is the unacceptable bullying of ordinary workers by the Tories' pals in big business. Mr Shapps is standing up for the powerful against the weak.
“Unite will continue, within the law, to tell the bad bosses who fund Mr Shapps that they have nowhere to hide.”
