Anti-Islam candidate selected in Ukip leadership race

Anne Marie Waters has been selected as a candidate in the Ukip leadership race, despite making controversial remarks about Islam.
The former Labour activist and founder of pressure group, Sharia Watch, has previously described Islam as ‘evil,’ and said Sharia Courts ‘treat women like dirt’.
She is one of eleven candidates, approved by Ukip’s National Executive Committee, that will battle to replace Paul Nuttall.
Ms Waters has faced opposition from within her own party over her overtly anti-Muslim stance.
UKIP West Midlands MEP, James Carver said: "Her train of thought, I think is going about it the wrong way... there are many British Muslims in this country and that is a good thing."
The full list of candidates is:
- Henry Bolton
- David Coburn
- Jane Collins
- David Kurten
- Marion Mason
- Aidan Powlesland
- John Rees-Evans
- Ben Walker
- Anne Marie Waters
- Peter Whittle
- David Allen
