Chancellor Rishi Sunak has delivered the government's 2021 Budget to parliament.

A wave of long-term tax rises was announced to cover the cost of Covid-19 recovery measures, including support for businesses ravaged by the pandemic, an extension of the furlough scheme, and a £1.65 billion boost to the vaccine rollout.

Sunak said the country's finances had been "fundamentally altered" by the pandemic but that the government would do "whatever it takes to support the British people and businesses through this moment of crisis". The UK's debt standsa at over £2 trillion for the first time in history.

But Sunak could still be in for a bumpy ride when he confirms his Budget, with Labour and Tory backbenchers in the unusual position of agreeing that now is not the time to to raise tax.
