A Labour MP has denied perverting the course of justice by allegedly lying over a speeding offence
Fiona Onasanya today appeared at the Old Bailey where she pled not guilty to one count of perverting the course of justice.
It is claimed that the Peterborough MP and her brother, Festus Onasanya, falsely informed authorities that somebody else had been behind the wheel during a police probe into a speeding offence which took place in July last year.
The pair allegedly named a third party, Aleks Antipow, as the driver of a vehicle in a bid to avoid prosecution.
The MP's brother, Mr Onasanya, also pled not guilty to three charges of perverting the course of justice.
The trained solicitor became the MP for Peterborough at last year's general election when she defeated the Conservatives' Stewart Jackson by just 607 votes.
The Labour whip will now face a pre-trial hearing on October 26th before her trial begins on November 12th. It is expected to last for seven days.
