MPs in new Northern Powerhouse group backed by George Osborne

MPs from across the political divide will join forces with George Osborne to demand more investment for the so-called Northern Powerhouse.
A pressure group chaired by the former Chancellor has set up the Northern Powerhouse group which will campaign to "drive business, skills and economic growth".
Mr Osborne was the brains behind the drive to “rebalance” the economy away from London and the South East during his time in Government.
Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry said he wanted the group to transform the north into a "globally-recognised economy".
Tory MP for Carlisle John Stevenson will chair the group. He said said it would "increase investment in and awareness of the North as a place that drives business, skills and economic growth".
His fellow joint chairs are Labour MPs Caroline Flint and Julie Elliott and Tory MP Kevin Hollinrake. Members of the House of Lords and elected mayors will also take part in the All Party Parliamentary Group.
It comes after Manchester mayor Andy Burnham insisted the nation was “still too London-centric”.
