Theresa May to lay out how artificial intelligence can make Brits healthier

British people will get five more years of healthy life by 2030 thanks to artificial intelligence in the NHS, Theresa May is set to say.

In a speech in the run up to the 70th anniversary of the health service, the Prime Minister will outline how the technology can transform patient care, according to the Sunday Times.

She will say “five more years of people’s lives will be healthy, independent and active” due to the groundbreaking technology, which ministers have already ploughed £210m into.

And she will promise a “data revolution” in the NHS - using AI to spot diseases such as cancer much more quickly.

The speech this week will mark the first in a string of announcements in the run up to the July birthday of the NHS, which will culminate in a major cash boost.

But the Sunday Times says Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt and Chancellor Philip Hammond have been at odds over how much money the Government can spend.

The speech by the Prime Minister will focus on industrial strategy and outline plans to make buildings twice as energy efficient by 2030 and boost its production of zero-emission vehicles.
