Tommy Robinson to face fresh contempt of court proceedings, Attorney General rules

Tommy Robinson will face fresh contempt of court proceedings, the Attorney General has announced.
The government’s chief legal advisor Geoffrey Cox said there were “strong grounds” to bring another case against the high-profile far-right activist, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.
Mr Yaxley-Lennon was last year sentenced after live streaming on Facebook in front of Leeds Crown Court in May, while an active grooming trial was subject to reporting restrictions.
The co-founder of the English Defence League was found in contempt of court on 25 May 2018, but his sentence was later quashed in a successful application to the Court of Appeal.
The case was referred to the Attorney late last year by Nicholas Hilliard QC, the Recorder of London.
Mr Cox said: “After carefully considering the details of this case, I have concluded there are strong grounds to bring fresh contempt of court proceedings against Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (AKA Tommy Robinson).
“As proceedings are now underway, it would not be appropriate to comment further and I remind everyone that it is an offence to comment on live court cases.”
Mr Yaxley-Lennon has been a political advisor to Ukip leader Gerard Batten since November.
