Two in three voters think the Government is bungling Brexit talks, new poll shows

Two thirds of voters think the Government is making a hash of Brexit negotiations, a damning new poll has suggested.

Some 66% of voters disapprove of the UK approach to quitting the bloc and just 34% approve, according to the ORB poll for the Daily Telegraph.

Meanwhile, the ORB opinion tracker found more people believe the UK will be worse off as a result of the vote to leave than those who think it will be better off.

It comes as Brexit Secretary David Davis heads to Rome to discuss future trading partnerships ahead of the fifth round of negotiations in Brussels later this week.

Just 26% of Brits think Theresa May will get “the right deal” for the country in the Brexit negotiations - down from 34% after the disastrous snap general election, the poll showed.

Even among over 65s - the core Conservative voting group - Mrs May commands faith from just 35% that she will get a good deal.

Ahead of his meetings today, Mr Davis declared: “As we leave the EU, we will not be retreating from our responsibilities as an outward-facing nation.

"Our ties to our friends and allies across Europe will continue to be close, effective and strong.”
