Economic growth in regional areas, including West Cumbria was highlighted at a major northern business event in Newcastle.

Sellafield Ltd had the stage at an Great Exhibition of the North event to introduce the nationally important work of cleaning up the biggest nuclear site in the UK, while at the same time working with its partners to develop the future development of the area.

Jamie Reed, Head of Development & Community Relations said: "This event gave us the opportunity to raise the profile of the regions, and highlight to a whole range of stakeholders the breadth of skills, technology, science and innovation we have in West Cumbria.

"Collaboration and partnership across government, industry and communities is the best chance of realising our, and other communities’ ambitions."

Angela Seeney, Transformation Director added: "We are proud of the achievements of our employees and their contribution to the local and national economy.  But it's vital that our dominance is reduced as other opportunities develop and we create an even stronger economic base through which generations of people can benefit from Sellafield’s legacy.”

The Northern Powerhouse Partnership supported the business summit at the Great Exhibition of the North, and their Director Henri Murison said: "It was great to hear from Sellafield Ltd who are a leading industrial player in the North and how they are working with key stakeholders including the supply chain, government and unions with the goal of future prosperity for the area.”
