Boris Johnson has been sent a questionnaire by the Metropolitan Police to give his account of several alleged parties in Downing Street and Whitehall that may have breached coronavirus rules.
A No 10 spokesperson said: “We can confirm the Prime Minister has received a questionnaire from the Metropolitan Police. He will respond as required.”
It comes after Scotland Yard confirmed on Wednesday that more than 50 people had been contacted in relation to the investigation, which is considering eight events held between May 2020 and April 2021.
Those contacted as part of the investigation are being sent a formal questionnaire asking for the account of events they attended, which must be returned within a week of receipt.
Announcing details of the form being sent out earlier this week, a spokesperson for the Met said: ”This document, which asks for an account and explanation of the recipient's participation in an event, has formal legal status and must be answered truthfully.
"Recipients are informed that responses are required within seven days. In most cases contact is being made via email."
