Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn today paid tribute to the former MP Kevin McNamara, who has died aged 82.
Mr McNamara served his Hull constituency for nearly 40 years and was Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary between 1987 and 1994.
He was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer last month after falling ill while on holiday in Spain and after showing no previous symptoms.
Mr Corbyn tweeted that Mr McNamara was a “lovely man” and said his thoughts were with the former MP’s family.
In a statement, Mr McNamara’s family said: "He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, following a short and unexpected illness."
Labour former deputy leader John Prescott said his former colleague was a “class act” while Hull East MP Karl Turner said he was “widely respected and will be missed greatly”.
